Description
Silver rounds are tokens that contain real silver
and are minted by private mints or refineries. They
are sold generally in 1-ounce sizes and can be minted
in varying degrees of fineness, though usually of
99.9% silver purity. They are not backed by any government
and therefore have no legal tender value. Partly for
this reason, they typically sell for less of a premium
than silver bullion coins issued by various governments
throughout the world.
Design
Silver rounds carry a countless number of designs
– far more than could be listed here. Some examples
include commemorations of famous people or special
occasions, coin replications, and religious themes.
Particular rounds become popular because of their
designs and / or the reputation of the minting company.
Most silver round designs will include information
specifying the amount of silver, its fineness, and
the issuing mint.
Minting Information
Silver rounds are minted at private mints such as
A-Mark Precious Metals, the Wall Street Mint and Sunshine
Minting.
